Our Story
New Horizon Community Care (NHCC) is a 501(c)(3) behavioral health nonprofit organization founded in Arizona, with locations throughout the Valley. Formerly known as New Horizon Youth Homes, NHCC opened its first residential group home in Chandler, in 2001. The home would soon reach maximum occupancy within a few months, prompting the organization to establish additional residential group homes across the Phoenix Metropolitan area.
Within its first year, NHCC received the Outstanding Provider Award from the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections, recognizing its exceptional service to Arizona’s most at-risk youth. Building on the success of its residential program, NHCC expanded its services to further support the community.
In 2008, NHCC launched a behavioral health outpatient center offering individual mentoring, laying the groundwork for multiple outpatient locations throughout Arizona. As the demand for services increased, a significant number of clinicians were added in 2010 to ensure NHCC was meeting the therapeutic needs of outpatient clients.
By 2012, NHCC introduced the CHOICE Program (Choosing Healing Over Impulse Creates Empowerment), designed to support youth facing behavioral, emotional, or social challenges—particularly those struggling in traditional school settings. In 2013, employment assistance and substance abuse programs were launched for adolescents and adults.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, NHCC navigated the challenges with resilience and adaptability. The organization secured grants to sustain operations, provided telehealth services, and distributed food boxes to clients in need. Throughout the pandemic and beyond, NHCC has remained committed to delivering high-quality behavioral health services.
In 2023, NHCC introduced the Therapeutic Recreation Program, helping adolescents build coping skills and resilience through structured therapeutic, recreational, and educational activities offered after school and during school breaks.
In 2024, NHCC began providing services in private high school settings through the development of the EmpowerED program—a comprehensive support initiative addressing the emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs of children, adolescents, and young adults in school environments. The program quickly expanded and now offers services across multiple K–12 schools and even at the college level.
Currently, NHCC serves more than 1,200 clients annually in Arizona and continues to grow. Throughout its history, the organization has remained dedicated to maintaining high standards and continually improving the quality of care for those it serves.
